FLOYDADA – Another month of a very few fire runs on paper belies just how busy Floydada Volunteer Firefighters were in the month of March.

FVFD’s fire runs for the month began on March 8 with a small grass fire along FM 28 south of Dougherty. On March 13 they responded to another small grass fire in the Barwise area along FM 784 before returning to the Dougherty area on March 17 for a fire along US 70.

Firefighters had their hands full on March 20 with the fire that burned approximately 400 acres near Muncy. Crews returned the next day after a flare up. Later that same afternoon firefighters were out west of McCoy on a grass fire.

The month ended with a grass fire north of the Sandhill community on March 25 before fighting a fire in the alleyway of Menefee Street in the city on March 29.

With the number of grass fires and high winds continuing to increase, Floydada firefighters remind residents a burn ban remains in place across the county, to avoid burning trash and keeping an eye on outdoor cooking.
