LUBBOCK, TX – One’s for all!

That’s the verdict for the marching bands from Lockney and Floydada as they performed on Saturday at the 2022 UIL Region 16 Marching Contest.

The Whirlwind band that performed “Alien Invasion” was a proud moment for Director of Bands Franklin Piland, as his students will now advance to the Area Marching competition on October 29, 2022, at Lowrey Field in Lubbock with a perfect set of ratings.

Robert Rumbelow guided his Longhorn band to a perfect score as they performed “Agent Zero” before a big crowd. With the division one ratings, Lockney will also perform at the Area competition in two weeks.

The bands are evaluated by a five-judge system known as the adjudication panel (three music judges and two visual judges), who rate the bands on three components of the performance: music, visual and movement, and content. Each band then receives a score between 1 (superior), 2 (excellent), 3 (average), 4 (below average), and 5 (poor).

At the next level, 48 bands will perform with Lockney, marching approximately halfway through the competition (23rd), while Floydada will march in the group’s third quarter (32nd).
