At a sporting event the other day, I heard fans screaming at the officials and opposing players as their team lost.
How effective are those fans at changing an official’s mind or getting the other team to play differently?
If it makes no difference, other than making us (the one’s participating in the yelling) stand out as “those fans,” then why do it?
If it’s not behavior we want to see from children – yelling and screaming at authority figures and classmates – then why do we keep modeling it?
“A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.” (Proverbs 15:18)
“But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” (Colossians 3:8)
The political chaos in our society may be caused for the same reason, so starting today, will you stir up strife or quiet the contention?
