Seven Sentence Sermon: How Much Did It Rain?

Recently we had a small shower in our community, and a friend asked me, “How much did it rain?”

Though I’m good at guessing, I couldn’t answer for sure because we no longer have a rain gauge outside.

For years, I had one at our house, but during the last significant drought (2011), I decided it was useless, and the Lord would send rain whenever He was ready.

“Once again, I’ll go over what God has done, lay out on the table the ancient wonders; I’ll ponder all the things you’ve accomplished, and give a long, loving look at your acts (Psalm 77:11-12 The Message).”

God wants us to see the emptiness in our gauge today while recalling how He is the only one with the power and authority to fill it up – remembering the blessings from yesterday and anticipating the showers of blessings still to come.

The more I think about it, I’ve not been rejoicing over what He has done in the past and, instead, have been living day to day waiting for the next big miracle.

If we really want to see “Showers of Blessings”, then maybe we should get our spiritual rain gauge back out to capture the “Mercy drops round us (that) are falling”.
