LUBBOCK, TX – The Floydada Whirlwinds played in the championship game of the Advanced Graphix Boys Championship in the 2023 Caprock Classic, their first appearance in the finale since 2008.
The Winds defeated Iowa Park, New Waverly, and Wildorado and were matched against the San Angelo TLCA Eagles in the championship.
The Eagles jumped to an early lead in the first quarter, but the Whirlwinds fought back in the second quarter, trailing 38-22 at halftime.
San Angelo TLCA continued to apply pressure in the third quarter and led 56-37 going into the fourth quarter.
Floydada could not mount a fourth-quarter comeback and would claim second place in the tournament, falling 72-46.
