CANYON, TX – The Floydada Lady Winds came up just short in a hard-fought Game One of the 2A Regional Final, falling 4-2 in nine innings to the Clarendon Lady Broncos on Friday night.
Floydada took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after four scoreless frames from both teams. However, Clarendon tied the game in the top of the seventh and eventually broke it open with two runs in the top of the ninth to seal the victory.
Defense proved critical in the extended battle, with both squads battling through tight moments.
Clarendon outhit Floydada 10 to 5 and overcame three errors, while the Lady Winds committed four errors of their own.
Despite the loss, Floydada’s pitching kept the game close, holding Clarendon scoreless in six of the nine innings. The Lady Winds had several opportunities but were unable to capitalize with runners on base in the late innings.
With the best-of-three series continuing, Floydada will need a win in Game Two to keep their state tournament hopes alive.
