LOCKNEY, TX – The City of Lockney has scheduled aerial mosquito spraying for the early morning hours of Saturday, June 21st, weather permitting. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing effort to reduce the mosquito population and help prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.

A specially equipped twin-engine aircraft will be used to disperse a very small amount of insecticide—approximately one to two tablespoons per acre. The plane uses ultra-low volume nozzles that release fine droplets designed to remain airborne and kill adult mosquitoes on contact.

While the spraying is considered safe and poses minimal risk to humans and animals, residents are encouraged to take simple precautions if they wish to further limit their exposure. These include:

Staying indoors with windows and doors closed during the spraying.

Rinsing off immediately with water if you are outside during spraying and come in contact with the chemical.

Washing any homegrown fruits and vegetables before consumption.

Covering outdoor furniture, grills, and other items, and bringing pet food bowls and children’s toys inside before the spray. If any items are left outside, rinse them thoroughly before use.

Keeping pets indoors during the operation.

Residents who experience any unusual symptoms or reactions should contact their healthcare provider or call the regional Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for guidance.

The City of Lockney remains committed to public health and safety. For additional questions or more information about the mosquito control program, please contact the city office at 806.652.2355.
