WASHINGTON, DC – Farmers and ranchers impacted by natural disasters in 2023 and 2024 can now apply for federal assistance through the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program.

The USDA has opened Stage One of the program for producers who previously received crop insurance or NAP payments. Applications open in person at FSA offices on July 10, with prefilled forms arriving in mailboxes on July 9.

Eligible losses include drought, wildfires, hurricanes, and other extreme events. Stage one payments will cover up to 90% of verified losses, minus any previous payouts, and require crop insurance coverage for the next two crop years.

Stage two of the program, which covers shallow or uncovered losses, is expected to be implemented this fall. To date, USDA has issued over $8.8 billion in disaster payments through multiple programs.
