LOCKNEY, TX – The Lockney ISD Board of Trustees made two significant decisions during its regular meeting on Monday, October 20, 2025. The board voted to make Homecoming an annual district event while also deciding to discontinue participation in the Head Start Program beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
A group of students addressed the board during the open forum, expressing their desire to see Homecoming become a yearly tradition. Their enthusiasm and reasoning led trustees to approve the proposal, ensuring that the event will now be a standing part of the Lockney ISD calendar. The decision was met with excitement across the district as it strengthens school pride and community involvement.
In other business, the board voted not to continue the district’s involvement in the Head Start Program, opting instead to explore other early childhood education opportunities moving forward. The district will finish out the current year with the Pre-K 3 Head Start program and will continue to offer the Pre-K 4 program in the years to come.
During the meeting, members participated in a training session on evaluating and improving student outcomes led by Ty Duncan. The superintendent provided updates on district activities and noted that the board will continue reviewing its operating procedures in the months ahead.
The meeting was conducted in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The notice for the meeting was posted on October 14, 2025, at 7:30 a.m.
With the approval of an annual Homecoming, Lockney ISD celebrates a new chapter of tradition and unity, while continuing to refine its programs to best serve the needs of students and the community.
