FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Volunteer Fire Department responded to eight calls during the month of October, including several vehicle and equipment fires across Floyd and neighboring counties.
Firefighters were first dispatched twice on October 1, handling a vehicle fire 12 miles east on U.S. Highway 70 early that morning, followed by a hay bale fire west of town on FM 37. On October 4, the department provided mutual aid for a large grass fire in neighboring Briscoe County. A trash pit fire near the Crosby County line was called off before crews arrived on October 12.
Back in town, firefighters responded to a gas leak at a home on South White Street on October 13, then returned to Highway 70 east of town for a truck tire fire before dawn on October 29. Two Halloween calls wrapped up the month — a tanker truck with wheels on fire at CR 270 and CR 221 that afternoon, followed by a gas meter leak near 10th and Ross that evening.
