CEDAR HILL, TX – A longtime Floyd County resident was pronounced dead on Thursday (November 13, 2025) following a bee attack.
Authorities were called to a farm on FM 97, east of Cedar Hill, after 5:00 pm, where 89-year-old Durrel Fortenberry was working on a water well.
According to a police report, Fortenberry succumbed to the bee stings.
(UPDATE) A niece, Stephanie Fortenberry Sanders, wrote to say Mr. Fortenberry was actually 91 years old and was attacked the evening of November 12.
