LOCKNEY, TX – Residents in Lockney may have noticed the American flags displayed across town during federal holidays — a long-standing tradition now carried out by the Lockney High School Student Council. The group has taken on the responsibility of placing and removing the flags, continuing a service that has become a meaningful part of local holiday observances.

The fundraiser, which costs $25 per year, ensures a flag is placed in the subscriber’s yard on each designated federal holiday. For many years, this service was operated by the local Boy Scouts, but as the demand grew, the responsibility shifted to the Student Council. The transition has allowed the tradition to continue while giving students the opportunity to serve their community in a hands-on and visible way.

Student Council members arrive early on holiday mornings to set up the flags and return later in the day to collect them, demonstrating their commitment to civic pride and community involvement. The project also serves as an important fundraiser that supports student activities throughout the school year.

Community members who would like to participate in the program can sign up by contacting the Student Council Sponsor Kathy Azua at Lockney High School during regular school hours.
