FLOYDADA, TX – The following is a recent Crime Report from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office & Floydada Police Department for November.
Floyd County Law Enforcement Activity Report: November 1–30
Throughout November, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floydada Police Department, and local emergency responders handled a wide range of incidents, including thefts, assaults, crashes, and ongoing investigations. The following is a chronological summary of all reported activity.
November 1
• The Floydada Police Department was dispatched to the 100 block of W Marivena regarding a burglary of a building. The complainant reported that three pairs of shoes and a JBL stereo speaker had been stolen.
• A deputy responded to the 300 block of SW 4th Street regarding a theft. The complainant reported that a family member entered their home and stole just over $200 in cash from a dresser drawer.
• The Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual walking by the 400 block of W Mississippi Street, who reported hearing a female screaming for help and a young child crying. Floydada Police responded to the location and made contact with the occupants of the home, where Juan Mendoza, 28, was arrested for Assault Impeding Airway, Interfering with an Emergency Telephone Call, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
November 2
• Floydada Police were called to the 200 block of S 3rd Street regarding a home burglary. The complainant reported someone entered through a bedroom window and stole a Chime debit card, an EBT card, a Go2Bank card, $150 in cash, and a wallet.
• A deputy was sent to the 400 block of E Bryant regarding damage to the complainant’s vehicle. The complainant reported that someone had damaged the right fender of his car overnight.
• A deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of W Ross Street regarding a crash where a driver fell out of their vehicle while attempting to retrieve an item in the street. The unattended car damaged a mailbox and collided with a neighbor’s tree at the intersection of Ross and Texas Street.
• A deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of SW 4th Street on a 2016 Nissan. Eric Davila was arrested on two active warrants for Debit/Credit Card Abuse and Driving While Intoxicated.
November 3
• Floydada Police and Emergency Medical Services responded to an unresponsive 56-year-old woman. She was pronounced dead, and her body was sent to Lubbock for an autopsy.
November 4
• A deputy responded to a crash on County Road 279 where the driver of a 2020 Freightliner drove too close to the edge of the dirt road and overturned the truck. No injuries were reported.
November 6
• The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about stolen fuel from a gas welder in the 600 block of Texas Avenue in Dougherty.
• A deputy responded to a crash on US 62 involving a 2023 BMW that struck a raccoon.
• A deputy was dispatched to US 62 and County Road 211 regarding a crash involving a 2006 Freightliner and a 1988 International tractor pulling a module builder. Anong Khamphouseane, 66, of Haltom City, Texas, was cited for failure to control speed.
November 7
• Floydada Police were dispatched to the 600 block of W Georgia Street regarding juveniles throwing rocks at a passing vehicle. The reporting party said four or five male juveniles ran north through the park, but officers were unable to locate them.
November 9
• The Sheriff’s Office received a call from a complainant whose 13-year-old daughter had taken the family vehicle without permission. Floydada Police located the vehicle entering the city on FM 784. The vehicle and child were released to the complainant, who declined to pursue charges.
November 12
• A deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of SW 7th Street regarding a vehicle burglary. Nothing was reported missing.
• Another deputy responded to the 500 block of SW 6th Street, where the complainant reported someone rummaged through their unlocked vehicle overnight, though nothing appeared to be missing.
November 13
• The Sheriff’s Office received a call about a deceased individual near the Cedar Hill community. The deceased was identified as Durrel Fortenberry, 91, of Lockney, Texas, who succumbed to bee stings.
November 14
• A deputy was dispatched to Lockney Elementary School regarding an individual causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Yvette Gonzalez, 38, of Lockney, was arrested for Criminal Trespass and Resisting Arrest.
• A deputy responded to Allsup’s regarding an assault following a football game. A male juvenile reportedly assaulted the complainant. The second party was identified.
• Floydada Police responded to Floydada Park regarding an altercation. A 12-year-old male juvenile pepper-sprayed a 10-year-old. When officers attempted contact, the 12-year-old fled and was not located but has been identified.
November 15
• A deputy responded to a crash at FM 378 and FM 97 involving a 2019 Kawasaki. The 28-year-old female rider was transported privately to WJ Mangold Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
• A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2018 Chevy Cruze for speeding 84 mph in a 75 mph zone. After observing signs of intoxication, the deputy arrested the driver, Arnulfo Morales, 53, of Floydada, for Driving While Intoxicated, 2nd offense.
November 16
• Floydada Police received a call from Covenant Medical Hospital regarding a 27-year-old female who reported being assaulted in the 400 block of E Missouri Street during a funeral on November 15. The case remains under investigation.
• A deputy responded to the 400 block of W Poplar Street for a criminal mischief report involving raw eggs thrown at a home and vehicle.
November 17
• A complainant met with Floydada Police regarding fraudulent charges over $300 to a credit card. It was later discovered a family member had used the wrong card accidentally.
• Police were dispatched to the 800 block of W Tennessee Street where a window appeared to have been shot with a BB gun. Damage was estimated at $300.
November 18
• Floydada Police conducted a traffic stop on a 2024 Ford pickup pulling a horse trailer in the 400 block of W Mississippi Street. The driver, Joshua Britten, 39, of Amarillo, Texas, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after being reported driving recklessly on the Matador Highway.
November 19
• A deputy responded to a one-vehicle rollover in the 2000 block of County Road 150. The driver was transported to WJ Mangold Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
• Another deputy responded to a crash at FM 97 and State Highway 207 where a 2025 Chevy Silverado ran a stop sign and entered a bar ditch. The driver refused medical treatment.
November 20
• Floydada Police responded to a burglary at the HOP-IN convenience store in the 100 block of S 2nd Street. A cinder block was used to break a glass door. Eleven nicotine vapes valued at $300 were stolen. Damage to the door is estimated at $1,200. A 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody December 1 in Lockney.
• A deputy transported Meghen Farmer, 37, of Lubbock, Texas, arrested on two Floyd County warrants for Theft of Property $2,500–<$30,000.
• A deputy transported Alex Espinoza, 38, of Quitaque, Texas, arrested on a Floyd County warrant for Theft of Property $2,500–<$30,000.
• A deputy was called to Lockney Junior High regarding a young female making an outcry of sexual assault. The case remains under investigation.
• The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen ATV from the 800 block of FM 2286. The ATV was later found abandoned on County Road 110. Security footage indicated several young males stole the Polaris Ranger and a John Deere air compressor.
• Floydada Police responded to a vandalism report involving a 2018 Ford F150 in the 400 block of W California Street. A tail lamp and rear passenger window were broken, and two caps were stolen.
November 23
• A deputy responded to a crash on US 70 involving a 2017 Honda that struck a deer. No injuries were reported.
November 24
• A deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of SW 7th regarding a runaway female juvenile. Deputies learned she had been picked up by her biological mother and taken to Plainview. Tasha Elledge, 30, of Plainview, was arrested for Kidnapping and held on a $10,000 bond.
November 25
• The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the 100 block of JB Avenue reporting a domestic disturbance. A 16-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody for Assault Domestic Violence.
November 28
• A deputy responded to a one-vehicle crash at FM 2286 and FM 378 north of Lockney. A 2007 Chevy failed to stop at the intersection and rolled into a field.
• Floydada Police and Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of E Kentucky. A small mobile home was fully engulfed and was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
November 30
• The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary in the 600 block of US Hwy 70 involving a broken window and stolen six-pack of beer. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of NE 8th Street regarding vandalism involving a cinderblock thrown through the windshield of a 2001 GMC pickup.
• A deputy responded to a rollover crash in the 1900 block of SH 207 involving a 2013 GMC pickup that left the roadway and rolled multiple times. No injuries were reported.
• A deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of W Jackson regarding an individual refusing to leave a residence following a dispute with family members.
