FLOYD COUNTY, TX – Floyd County 4-H recently kicked off its annual Walk Across Texas! Student Challenge with visits to physical education classes at Lockney Elementary and Floydada Duncan Elementary. The event encourages students to stay active while learning the importance of healthy habits and regular physical activity.

During the kickoff, student teams were challenged to collectively walk 832 miles over an eight-week period by participating in activities throughout the school week. The challenge is designed to promote teamwork, goal setting, and an active lifestyle among students while making fitness fun and engaging.

In addition to student participation, Floyd County 4-H is inviting community members to take part in the excitement through the Steps Towards a Fit Floyd County challenge. This community-wide effort allows residents to join alongside students in working toward better health and increased physical activity.

Those interested in signing up or learning more about how to participate are encouraged to contact the County Extension Office at 806-983-4912. The overall goal of the program is to get all of Floyd County moving and focused on building healthier routines.

The kickoff events were made possible with the help of Floyd County Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador Ella Snowden, who assisted with activities and student engagement. Appreciation is also extended to the physical education coaches who continue to motivate and inspire students each day, including Coach Haley Ascensio, Coach Aaron Ross, Coach Devin Griffin, and Coach Braun Hobbs. Their dedication plays a key role in helping students stay active and develop lifelong healthy habits.
