LOCKNEY, TX – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued a boil water notice for the City of Lockney public water system following a main water line shutdown for repairs.
As a precaution, all customers are advised to boil their water prior to use for any human consumption purposes. This includes drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and washing hands or faces. Children, seniors, and individuals with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to harmful bacteria and should take extra care to follow these guidelines.
To ensure all harmful bacteria and microbes are destroyed, water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and maintained for at least two minutes before being cooled and used. This applies to water intended for drinking, food preparation, and ice making.
As an alternative to boiling, residents may use bottled water or obtain water from another safe and suitable source for consumption.
City officials will notify customers once the water system is deemed safe and the boil water notice is lifted. At that time, a rescission notice will be issued using the same communication methods as this alert.
