TEXAS – High school students from across the region recently had the opportunity to compete for scholarships and an unforgettable trip to the nation’s capital through the 2026 Lighthouse Electric Youth Tour.
Students representing Abernathy, Crosbyton, Hale Center, Hedley, Floydada, Lockney, Memphis, Motley County, Petersburg, Plainview, Ralls, Silverton, and Valley ISD participated in this year’s contest, showcasing their knowledge, leadership skills, and commitment to their communities.
Lighthouse Electric announced that Brittney Machado and Jayvien Aleman were selected as this year’s top winners. Both students will receive a $1,500 scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they will join other students from across the country to learn more about government, leadership, and the cooperative system.
In addition, Payten Shuping and Mylie Morales were named scholarship recipients and will each receive a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of their outstanding efforts.
Lighthouse Electric expressed appreciation to the contest judges, including Lupe Marquez of Lamb County Electric Cooperative, Gladys Saenz of Bailey County Electric Cooperative, and Matt Zamora of Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative, for their time and dedication in evaluating this year’s participants.
The Youth Tour program continues to provide area students with valuable educational opportunities, leadership development, and financial support as they prepare for their future endeavors.
