Floydada, Lockney girls cross country teams advance from 4-2A meet

LUBBOCK — The cross country runners fought through the windy conditions on Tuesday at Chaparral Ridgecrest Cross Country Course on the campus of LCU at the District 4-2A meet, and still came away with good performances. New Deal swept the team titles in both the boys and girls varsity divisions, while the Floydada and Lockney girls teams finished second and third respectively to advance both to the Region I cross country meet on Monday, October 25 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Lockney qualified two boys to advance to the Region I meet with Jonathan Cienfuegos and Alberto Soto-Gonzales taking seventh and eighth places respectively. The top three teams and top ten individuals all earned the right to move on in the UIL playoff system.

 

Varsity Girls (2 miles) Standings and Results:

Team: (1) New Deal – 15; (2) Floydada – 61; (3) Lockney – 80; (4) Ralls – 107; Hale Center had individuals only, not enough for a team of five.

Top 10 Medalists: (1) Madison Nunes, New Deal, 13:44; New Deal had the top five and number seven finishers (6) Madison Johnson, Lockney, 15:14(9) Allison Romero, Floydada, 15:45; (10) Faith Lopez, Floydada, 16:18

Other Floydada runners: (12) Kirsten Pyle, (14) Desiree Delafuente, (16) Janeisa Garza, (23) Jaycee Caudle

Team: (1) New Deal – 15; (2) Hale Center – 84; Floydada, Lockney and Ralls had individuals only, not enough for a team of five.

Top 10 Medalists: (1) Tyler Nunes, New Deal, 19:40; New Deal had the top five finishers; (6) Jonathan Cienfuegos, Lockney, 22:20; (7) Alberto Soto-Gonzales, Lockney, 22:22

Other Lockney Runners: (13) Nathan Hernandez, (16) Felix Gonzales

Floydada Runners: (12) Reese Hinsley, (17) Brae Ballesteros

Team: (1) Floydada – 36, (2) New Deal – 41, (3) Hale Center – 60, (4) Ralls – 88, Lockney had individuals only, not enough for a team of five.

Junior Varsity Girls (2 miles) Results and Standings:

Team: (1) Lockney; Floydada only had individuals, not enough for a team of five. These were the only two schools competing in the JV Girls division.
