Longhorns, Jackrabbits to decide No. 2 and 3 seeds of 5-2A-II this Friday

RALLS — The Lockney Longhorns (7-2, 2-1) and the Ralls Jackrabbits (6-3, 2-1) both know they are headed to the 2A-II playoffs in football, but Friday in Ralls they will decide who is seeded No. 2 and who is No. 3.

Lockney and Ralls traveled similar paths in 2021 by each losing their season openers. Lockney fell to Ropes 31-7. Ralls was week three finding the win column after losing to Farwell (7-2) 42-21 and then to Clarendon (8-1) by a close margin of 12-8. The Longhorns and Jackrabbits proceeded to put together impressive winning streaks heading toward District 5-2A-II play.

Both had their winning streaks halted by the Roscoe Plowboys (8-1) in district action. Ralls’ consecutive wins ended at five when they fell to the Plowboys 26-14 in their eighth game of the season. Lockney saw their seven-game winning streak stopped by Roscoe 46-6 last Friday.

Both Ralls and Lockney have comparable scoring averages this fall. The Jackrabbits are averaging 36 points per game, while Lockney has been putting an average of 34 points on the scoreboard each contest.
