FLOYDADA — For the second consecutive season, the Floydada Whirlwinds (2-7, 1-3) and the Hale Center Owls (3-6, 1-3) will decide the No. 4 seed of District 2-2A-I in football.

It will be winner-take-all game at Charles Tyer Stadium on Friday with the winner advancing to the Bi-District Playoffs next week. This is third consecutive season for Hale Center to be in this situation in their regular season finale. In 2019, the Olton Mustangs edged the Owls 21-20. In 2020, Hale Center knocked off Floydada 50-14.

Floydada holds a slight edge in the all-time series with an 8-7 record against Hale Center. Since 2014 when the Whirlwinds and Owls have been in the same district continuously, Floydada still possesses a one-win margin of 4-3 despite Hale Center winning the last two meetings.

Friday will be Senior Night for five Whirlwinds — QB Trace Glasscock, OL/LB Davion Ramos, RB Javier Santos, DE Andrew Suarez, and DL Devin Riojas. Glasscock has 1,018 yards passing this season going into the last regular season game.

Hale Center started the 2021 season with a 2-1 record after finishing 6-4 in the COVID-stricken 2020 season. The Owls lost their senior starting quarterback Hunter Thompson in the season opener with a shoulder injury. Sophomore Adam Beruman has played virtually the whole season as the Owls signal-caller.

The winner of the Floydada-Hale Center game will take on the No. 1 seed out of District 1-2A-I in Bi-District. Going into Friday’s outing against the Sanford-Fritch Eagles (4-5, 3-1), the Panhandle Panthers (4-5, 4-0) already possesses a share of the district crown. This game, plus one between the Farwell Steers (7-2, 3-1) and the Olton Mustangs (6-3, 2-2) will factor significantly in the seeding of the top four teams from 1-2A-I.

The New Deal Lions (8-1, 4-0) and Sundown Roughnecks (7-2, 4-0) will decide the 2-2A-I Championship and the top two seeds at Sundown. The Post Antelopes (3-6, 2-2) have already clinched the No. 3 seed going into their game with the Tahoka Bulldogs (0-9, 0-4).

Kickoff: 7 p.m. at Charles Tyer Stadium
