LOCKNEY — Candidate filing is now open in Lockney’s mayoral race and for city council seats four and five.

The filing window, which opened on Wednesday, runs through Feb. 18. Candidates must file all of the required paperwork with City Hall before 5 p.m. that day to secure a spot on the May 7 ballot.

Potential candidates must live in the Lockney city limits and can file an application in person at City Hall, 218 E. Locust St. Monday through Friday 8 to 5; by mail to P.O. Box 387; by email to laurie@cityoflockney.com; or by fax to (806) 652-2052.

City officials said that it is still not clear how the city council’s recent decision to move to an all at-large election system will affect the May elections and that the city was waiting on further guidance from their legal counsel. However, the change will not affect who is eligible to run, since under the current system aldermen do not have to live in the district which they represent.

For more information, citizens can contact City Hall at (806) 652-2355.
