FLOYDADA – The Floydada Whirlwinds (3-5) and the remainder of District 3-2A will kickoff the 2022 baseball race on Tuesday, with the exception of the Lockney Longhorns (6-3) who drew the first week of open dates. Lockney will play a non-district double-header with the Petersburg Buffaloes on Tuesday at Longhorn Field.

The New Deal Lions (4-3) are the defending 3-2A champions and the class 2A State Champions. New Deal will be Floydada’s opponent at Watson Field at 3:30pm on Tuesday. Both the baseball and softball teams of 3-2A are playing home-home series with Tuesday and Saturday games.

Floydada has three pitchers that have picked up one win each in non-district play, those being seniors Trace Glasscock and Davian Ramos, plus junior Donovan Rocha. Javier Santos, Ryan Perez, Juan Gonzales and Ty Henderson are some other arms that coach Danny Brittain may call on.

Offensively, the Whirlwinds are led by junior Andres Mendoza with a .632 batting average; Saul Reyes is hitting at .455, and Izaiah Alvarado has a .412 average at the plate.

All Whirlwind baseball games are broadcast on 106.1 FLiP FM.
