RALLS – The Floydada Whirlwinds and Ralls Jackrabbits will play in the District 4-2A tennis tournament on Monday. Floydada won both the boys and girls divisions a year ago that marked the 21st consecutive year that Floydada has won a district tennis championship in boys or girls or overall.

This past Wednesday, the FCHS tennis team had a good showing at a tournament in Lubbock hosted by SPECHA (home school association). There were double digit number of schools that played in the tourney.

Floydada boys doubles duo of Aiden Trevino – Braun Hobbs went 2-0 in their matches. While boys singles player Brandon Marquez; boys doubles unit of Charlie Contreras-Mike Rios; girls singles Janeisi Garza; and the mixed doubles team of Jazmin Pachecco – Abran Castillo all finished 1-1 in their matches.

Also competing on the Floydada tennis team were Sydney Chesshir in girls singles; plus the sisters duo of Sierra and Mia Snowden in doubles.

“Our kids played very well in the tourney. There has been an overall improvement since we started playing this past month. I expect to compete very strongly with Ralls at the District Tournament on Monday,” said Adam Zepeda in his fourth year as the FCHS tennis coach.

The top two finishers in singles and doubles in boys and girls will advance to the Region 1-2A tourney in Canyon. Region 1-2A spring events are hosted by West Texas A&M University.
