FLOYDADA – There was nothing pleasant about the weather on Tuesday with southwest winds howling from 30 to 60 mph, but the show must go on was the attitude of many spring sport athletes across the South Plains.
The Floydada Lady Winds and the Lockney Lady Horns both endured the windy situation, but it was Floydada (19-2-1, 5-0) that prevailed with a 11-1 softball victory in 3-2A play.
Lady Winds pitcher Erin Trevino threw a season high 11-strikeouts, and with the support of her defense, only three Lockney batters reached first base on a pair of singles and a walk.
Floydada’s offense sprayed 13-hits including a RBI triple by Soriah Wickware, a pair of doubles from her older sister Celese that drove in three runs, a RBI double by Carissa Fernandez, plus Trevino went 3-3 batting – all singles. Floydada had a big outburst in the third inning by sending 11-batters to the plate that produced eight runs off of seven hits. Kaley Garza crossed home plate three times to lead the Lady Winds in scoring.
Lockney’s Mianette Rubio had two singles to lead the Lady Horns. Karen Trenado got aboard with a walk and scored a run.
Floydada and Lockney will continue their two games this Saturday at Lady Horns Field. KFLP 900am and 98.5 FM will have the radio broadcast. First pitch will be at 11:00 a.m.
