UPDATE: The Longhorns and Clarendon will face off on Friday at noon at Amarillo High School’s baseball field. Game 2 will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Game 3 will be at 3:00 p.m. if necessary. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for students.

AMARILLO – For the second day in a row the Lockney Longhorns bats carried them to the win, besting Gruver by a 16-6 score to move on to the UIL regional quarterfinals.

Senior Austin Rodriguez started the scoring with an RBI in the first inning, but multiple errors by Gruver pushed the score to 11-2 by the fourth inning. Nathan Ceniceros was the final Longhorn to cross the plate by the time it was all said and done and Lockney walked away with the 16-6 win.

The Longhorns got five singles and took advantage of four Greyhound errors in that 7-run fourth inning. In the fifth frame, Lockney received five walks from Gruver pitching and pushed across four more runs without a hit to put the game in jeopardy of the 10-run mercy rule.

Lockney had four batters with two hits apiece: Ceniceros, Malaki Alvis, Xavier Jimenez and Josh Jimenez. The quartet scored half of the Horns runs between them. Eight different Lockney
players scored in the game, including Morris Salas (2), Haygen Lefevre and Damion Gonzales.

Dyllan Thiebaud got the win on the mound by pitching 4.2-innings with a two-hitter. Thiebaud
surrendered five walks and recorded three strikeouts.
