LOCKNEY – Lockney City Councilman Steve Wright is the city’s new Mayor Pro-Tem following Tuesday morning’s city council meeting.

Wright was nominated for the position by fellow councilman Donnie McLaughlin.

The council also took action on a number of grant proposals during the meeting, and announced the city’s fire hydrants would be flushed at the end of the month.

During citizen comments Rosio Reyes asked the council why discussion on the current open council seat did not take place Tuesday. Reyes was one of several who volunteered for the seat during the May council meeting.

Mayor Aaron Wilson told Reyes he could not answer the question. When pressed said the council was under legal advisement for what to do with the position.

Fred Cervantes, another citizen to speak during public comments, asked for an update on items he requested from the city on May 26 and to again be placed on the council’s agenda to discuss ongoing concerns with the Lockney Police Department.

The council’s next meeting is set for July 19 at 7:00 a.m. at the Lockney Community Center.
