LOCKNEY – As long as everything stays as it currently is, the City of Lockney will end the fiscal year roughly $64,000 under budget. That’s welcome news to City Manager Buster Poling, but he’s cautiously optimistic about that number before the September 30 deadline.

“We never know when something will jump up and need major repairs,” Poling told the Lockney City Council Tuesday morning. He told the council the fact the city came under budget was unexpectedly welcomed based on the need for two major repairs at their Aiken well site and due to unexpected startup costs for the Lockney Police Department.

The Council also discussed the latest on an interlocal agreement with Floyd County for 911 dispatch services for the police department. Poling and attorney Mitch Williams went over changes in language from the initially presented agreement from the County and Lockney’s proposal, specifically the city asking for 911 calls within city limits be dispatched to LPD first. Williams also agreed to speak with County Attorney Lex Herrington before the council voted to take action.

No other actions were taken at the meeting. The City Council is next set to meet on October 18 at 7:00 a.m. at the Lockney Community Center.
