FLOYD COUNTY – According to Longhorns Head Coach Jonathan Thiebaud high school football has three seasons. Pre-district, district and playoff season. After the first five games the Longhorns and Whirlwinds both find themselves with an off week, and are looking forward to their second seasons next week.

When asked about preparing for district both Thiebaud and Whirlwinds Head Coach J.R. Compton said the exact same thing. “We’re all zero and zero in district play,” both men told the Record.

For the Whirlwinds, the first district matchup will be against the Sundown Roughnecks next Friday night at Charles Tyer Stadium. Compton stressed the need for his players to stay healthy as they move toward facing new district mates Olton and familiar faces Tahoka, Post and New Deal.

The Longhorns will head to Crosbyton next Friday, and Thiebaud also spoke about injuries and how he has reminded his players that he’s seen improvements each week and wants them to keep ‘controlling the narrative’ of their games. In addition to the Chiefs, the Longhorns will face off with Ralls, Bovina, Sudan and the Hale Center Owls.
