LOCKNEY – The Lockney Police Department moved quickly on hiring its newest officer, swearing them in late last week.

Following Tuesday’s approval to expand the department to three full-time officers, Chief Casey Fitzwater installed Miguel DeLeon in a ceremony Friday afternoon. The former Texas Department off Criminal Justice employee recently graduated from the South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG) Police Academy.

According to Fitzwater, DeLeon will now begin a multi-week field training program. He joins Fitzwater and Sgt. Alberto Soto-Gonzales as full-time employees of the department, becoming the fifth patrol officer of the year-old department along with reserve officers Chad Eberle and Justin Turney.
