FLOYDADA – Floyd County Commissioners have approved the next round of ‘tweaks’ to election and voter registration software just one week after residents went to the polls in the 2022 general election.

On Monday commissioners approved contracting with Austin-based Vista Solutions Group on the new required software at a cost of just over $25,000. The cost will include training on and continued upgrades of the software, and will be paid using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds the county has on hand.

During Monday’s meeting commissioners also agreed to move county donations to the Salvation Army to the Benevolence Fund at Lockney’s First Methodist Church following the Salvation Army’s decision to consolidate Lockney’s operations and run them in Lubbock County . “If we send the money to Lubbock, our county is not getting it back,” Judge Marty Lucke told commissioners. He added the Methodist church was picked due to their funds being given to anyone in need with no membership requirements necessary.

Commissioners also agreed to facilitate the opening of a second checking account for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office for their Family and Consumer Health programs as a way to differentiate from Agricultural needs. They also approved a contract to pave a private road at the Floydada Country Club.

The county will next meet on Monday, November 21 to canvass election results from earlier in the month. That meeting will be at 1:00 p.m.
