LUBBOCK, TX – This has been a week for overtime games for girls’ basketball. On Tuesday, Floyd County fans attending the Floydada vs. Bovina boys playoff game in Littlefield watched the Monterey and Amarillo High girl’s game go to five overtimes before the Lady Plainsmen took the victory.

Last night, former Lockney girls and current Texas Texas women’s basketball head coach Krista Gerlich watched as her Lady Raider squad took West Virginia to double-overtime at the Spirit Arena.

The game’s hero was Rhyle McKinney, a Sophomore from Argyle, who came off the bench to lead the Lady Raiders in scoring, including a game-winning shot with 3 seconds on the clock.

“I LOVE WEST TEXAS HS GIRLS BASKETBALL,” Gerlich exclaimed via Twitter after watching Tuesday’s high school game. “Hate someone had to lose, incredible game!”

Counting the five overtimes in that game, the two from Wednesday night, and a triple overtime loss last Saturday, Gerlich has a decade of extra play in just one week.

For fans, they experienced the biggest comeback win by a Lady Raider team in 23 years. Tech now prepares to play Baylor on the road Saturday in Waco.
