LUBBOCK, TX – For anyone who remembers having a television that relied on an antenna (usually outdoors) to bring in signals of stations to watch, there were only three to four stations you could receive. With cable and satellite, the number of options expanded to hundreds.

Mike McClure grew up in Oklahoma during those three station days and understood that to receive a channel, you needed to “raise your antenna.” Today, the frontman for the legendary band The Great Divide uses a creative antenna when it comes to writing music.

“When I sit down and am ready to receive, stuff just comes,”  McClure explains. “I try not to judge it or put it in a box.”

He says he didn’t really set out to write a reggae song, but while at his home in Seymour, TX listening to instrumental reggae, the song “Slipping Away” came through clearly on his screen.

Bryce Conway is the newest Texas Country/Red Dirt band member of a group that came together after a breakup years ago. He’s not only a band member but also the biggest fan and says the song is very technical, but it sounds so simple.

McClure is the latest artist to join 106-1 Flip-FM for an in-studio “Live From The Backroom.”
