FLOYDADA, TX – Early voting for the upcoming City of Floydada General Election and Special Election will begin Monday, April 20, giving residents the opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
Voters will be deciding two At-Large positions, along with a special election item that could impact funding for local street maintenance and repairs.
The special election centers on Proposition A, which asks voters to consider the reauthorization of a local sales and use tax.
The proposition reads:
“This is a tax increase. Proposition to reauthorize local sales and use tax in the amount of 1/4% to continue to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. The tax expires on the fourth anniversary of the date of this election unless the imposition of the tax is reauthorized.”
If approved, the measure would continue the existing quarter-percent sales tax dedicated specifically to maintaining and repairing city streets. If not reauthorized, the tax would expire after four years.
A Spanish translation of the proposition is also provided on the ballot:
“La reautorización del impuesto local sobre las ventas y el uso en Floydada, Texas, a la tasa de 1/4 % para continuar proporcionando ingresos para el mantenimiento y reparación de las calles municipales. El impuesto expira en el cuarto aniversario de la fecha de esta elección a menos que se vuelva a autorizar la imposición del impuesto.”
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of early voting to avoid Election Day lines and ensure their voices are heard in both the city leadership races and the decision regarding future street funding.
