
FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Whirlwinds battled in district action on Tuesday against the Wellington Skyrockets.
Wellington struck first in the top of the second inning, taking the lead 1-0.
Floydada fought back in the bottom half of the second with a solo homerun by Brandyn Diaz. They also tacked on three more runs in the inning to go ahead 4-1.
The Whirlwinds continued to rally in the bottom of the third, scoring three more runs and extending their lead 7-1.
The Skyrockets caught fire in the top of the fourth and rallied for seven runs to take an 8-7 lead.
Floydada’s offense struck back in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead 9-8.
The Whirlwinds defense held out for the remainder of the game and secured the key district victory over the Skyrockets 13-8.
Floydada moves to 14-6 overall and 6-1 in district play.
Floydada now has a chance for a district title as they will rematch the Clarendon Broncos on Friday in Floydada.
