
FLOYDADA, TX — The Floydada Whirlwinds and Lady Winds turned in a strong showing at the Area Track Meet, with several athletes earning top finishes and advancing to the regional level.
Leading the way was Toby Zepeda, who claimed the Area Championship in the shot put with a throw of 17 feet, 5.5 inches. Zepeda’s first-place finish secured his spot as a regional qualifier.
Manny DeLaFuente also earned a trip to regionals after capturing the bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 inches. His third-place finish adds to Floydada’s representation in the jumping events at the next level of competition.
On the track, the Lady Winds will be well represented in the relay events. The 4×200-meter relay team of Kaydin Logsdon, Brooklyn Pyle, Tiffiny Perez, and Ana Saldana qualified for regionals with a strong performance against tough competition.
That same core group, joined by Mia Casares, will also advance in the 4×400-meter relay. Logsdon, Casares, Perez, and Saldana combined efforts to secure a regional qualifying spot, showcasing both depth and endurance for Floydada’s girls program.
In distance running, Ixan Pecina earned a regional berth in the 1600-meter run, continuing a strong season and adding to the Whirlwinds’ list of qualifiers.
With multiple athletes advancing across field events, relays, and distance races, Floydada will carry solid momentum into the regional meet as they compete against some of the top talent in the area.
