FLOYDADA, TX – A jury trial is now underway in Floyd County for Alberto Guerrero, Jr., who is facing multiple felony charges connected to a 2025 incident that led to an armed standoff in Floydada.

Court proceedings began at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, following jury selection earlier in the week. Guerrero is charged with aggravated sexual assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of a firearm.

Testimony began Tuesday with the alleged victim taking the stand, along with Floyd County Deputy Frank Robles. During the first day of testimony, several photographs were admitted into evidence, documenting injuries reportedly sustained on the day of the incident. Additional physical evidence collected from the victim’s residence was also presented to the jury.

The case stems from a February 28, 2025 incident in the 500 block of West Lee Street in Floydada. Authorities were attempting to execute felony warrants when the situation escalated into an armed standoff involving local law enforcement, the Lubbock SWAT team, and the U.S. Marshals Service. Investigators say Guerrero fled from officers and hid beneath a residence before being taken into custody after an extended standoff.

Testimony is expected to continue Wednesday with a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE nurse) scheduled to provide expert testimony regarding the medical examination conducted following the alleged assault. Lab technicians are also expected to testify, presenting DNA evidence collected during the investigation.

In addition, two women from Lockney Elementary are anticipated to take the stand as part of the ongoing proceedings.

The trial is expected to continue over the coming days as prosecutors and defense attorneys present their cases. Further updates will be provided as testimony continues and the case moves toward a verdict.
