
FLOYDADA, TX – Floydada ISD honored its student-athletes, coaches, and teams during the annual Sports Banquet held Monday, May 4, recognizing a year filled with achievement, milestones, and continued postseason success.

Cheer Team Recognized
The Floydada cheer squad, led by Elizabeth Rendon and Rina Martinez, recognized the following members:
Mekayla Fipps (Senior Captain), Ana Saldana (Senior Co-Captain), Mylie Morales (Senior), Madison Pyle (Junior), Rilynn Hinsley (Junior), Nalia Ordonez (Junior), Jenna Martinez (Sophomore), Sergio Martinez (Freshman), Marisol Delafuente (Freshman), Brooklyn Pyle (Freshman), Siann Salazar (Freshman), and Jada Ascencio (Freshman Mascot).
Athletic Trainers Honored
Under the direction of Head Trainer Emily Martin, the following student trainers were recognized:
Itzel Baltazar, Jocelynn Baltazar, Sidny Hardcastle, Ella Hightower, Katie Landin, Emily Martinez, Bailey McHam, Abigail Reyes, and Pea Shuping.
Cross Country Achieves Historic Season
The cross country program, coached by Coach Pittman, Coach Guerrero, Coach Sanders, and Coach Shores, celebrated a milestone year as both varsity teams qualified for regionals for the first time in 35 years.
Varsity Girls Team:
Mia Casarez (5th place individual, Regional Qualifier), Ana Saldana (11th place individual, Regional Qualifier), Kamrie Hernandez (Regional Qualifier), Tiffiny Perez (Regional Qualifier), Aphrodite Aguilar (Regional Qualifier), Brooklyn Pyle (Regional Qualifier), and Madison Pyle (Regional Qualifier).
Varsity Boys Team:
Manny Delafuente (10th place individual, Regional Qualifier), Martin Ramirez (6th place individual, Regional Qualifier), Santiago Miranda (7th place individual, Regional Qualifier), Ixan Pecina (5th place individual, Regional Qualifier), Braeden Ramirez (Regional Qualifier), and Aidyn Gonzalez (Regional Qualifier).
The varsity boys were also recognized as back-to-back district champions and regional qualifiers for the third consecutive year, while the varsity girls finished third in district.
Football Players Earn District Honors
The Whirlwinds football team, coached by Angel Pantoja, Iziah Alvarado, Jeff Fabila, Jeremy Hinojosa, Tom Logsdon, Jonathan Ramirez, Saul Reyes, Aaron Ross, Andrew Shores, Jeff Smith, and Brandon Wickware, recognized the following athletes:
Adrian Martinez (Newcomer of the Year), Valentin Martinez (Utility Player), Logan Gutierrez (2nd Team Running Back and 2nd Team Inside Linebacker), Jathan Sanchez (2nd Team Receiver), Brody Hughes (2nd Team Guard), Andrew Delgado (2nd Team Tackle), and Christian Contreras (2nd Team Outside Linebacker).

Softball and Baseball Continue Playoff Runs
Lady Winds Softball (Coached by Armando Morales, Bethany Shores, Andrew Shores) continues an outstanding season with a 31-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 district mark.
The Lady Winds are District, Bi-District, and Area Champions, and are currently competing in the Regional Semifinals.
Whirlwinds Baseball (Coached by Jeff Fabila, Jeremy Hinojosa, Jeff Smith) holds a 19-6 record and is competing in the Area round of the playoffs after securing the program’s first outright district title since 2010 and first Bi-District Championship since 2017.
Special Awards
Kyra Segura was honored with the Fighting Lady Wind Award, while Manny Delafuente received the Fighting Whirlwind Award.
The Floydada ISD Sports Banquet served as a celebration of the dedication and accomplishments of its student-athletes. With several teams still competing deep into the postseason, the year continues to build on an already memorable chapter for Floydada athletics.
