AUSTIN, TX – For more than a decade, Lockney Elementary School has continued a tradition of taking fifth grade students on an educational trip to the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The annual trip gives students an opportunity to experience Texas history and government firsthand while creating lasting memories with classmates.
The trip spans two days, with students departing one morning, spending the night away from home, and returning the following evening. Last year, current principal Debbie McClure expanded the experience by adding another important stop tied to Texas history — the The Alamo in San Antonio.
The additional stop was intended to enhance the educational value of the trip while also giving students an opportunity many may not otherwise experience.
This year’s fifth grade class departed Lockney on Tuesday morning and returned Wednesday night after a packed schedule of activities and learning experiences. Students traveled to San Antonio first, where they enjoyed time at Urban Air Adventure Park before spending the night at a local church.
On Wednesday morning, the group traveled to Austin to tour the Texas State Capitol before beginning the trip back home to Lockney.
The annual journey continues to provide students with valuable lessons about Texas history, government, and travel while creating memories they are likely to remember for years to come.
