FLOYDADA — The call came Thursday for the three of us to judge the work of Floydada Collegiate ISD students.
Myself, the Floyd County Record’s Alex Driggars, and Whirlwind Nutrition owner Yelitza Serrato were asked to walk the halls of Floydada Collegiate Junior High and High School to pit the classes against each other to see which one showed the most spirit for Friday night’s Homecoming matchup against the Smyer Bobcats.
In the end, we had a clear winner.
The Sophomore class brought the party — literally — to the halls of the high school with their “Fiesta” theme, complete with piñata and bright colors. While bonus points were lost for not having a Bobcat piñata, the color alone made the three judges want to celebrate.
Upstairs in the junior high the 6th grade class adopted head football coach J.R. Compton’s rally cry of “Kahili Ho’omau!” by decorating for a luau, complete with flowers, tiki heads and grass skirts… but only on the walls, not on the students, as that might violate the dress code.
The students celebrated their victories Friday afternoon in an all-school pep rally for the football team, who will celebrate their victory Friday night at 7 at Charles Tyer Stadium.
Go Winds, and thank you from KFLP Radio, Whirlwind Nutrition and the Floyd County Record for giving us the opportunity to take part in your school spirit.
