LOCKNEY — The Lockney City Council accepted the resignation of the sitting municipal judge and appointed a new judge to the position during their regular meeting on Tuesday morning.

Judge Ed Marks submitted his letter of resignation to the council, who accepted it 4-0-1.

“I have chosen to remove some of the stress of dealing with other people’s problems, and retire,” Marks said in the letter.

“I was handed a court that was in shambles because of poor management. I embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and gradually turned it into an Honorable working court of Justice,” Marks wrote. “I believe I have served the community well, and I am proud of my achievements.”

Aldermen appointed attorney Kelly Dunbar to the seat. She will take the reigns from Marks on Oct. 1. Marks will continue to serve as Justice of the Peace for Precincts 2 and 3, according to the council.
