Floydada middle schoolers make All-Region bands with Saturday auditions

SHALLOWATER — Twelve Floydada Junior High students auditioned and four were selected for the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-Region bands on Saturday.

8th graders David Guerra (flute) and Tavianne Bullock (bass clarinet) were chosen for the Middle School Symphonic Band, and 8th grader John-Taylor Snowden (clarinet) and 7th grader Kanon Rainwater (tuba) placed in the Middle School Concert Band.

Other students who auditioned Saturday are Jason Luna, Alli Hernandez, Wesley Crowe, Yael Lara, Noah Fierros, Jaylynn Moreno, Yager James and Saul Castillo.

For the audition, students were required to play an E flat scale, a chromatic scale and portions of two etudes. According to the school, nearly 1,000 students from the region competed Saturday, and all of Floydada’s students performed “extremely well” and placed high in the rankings.

The high schoolers get their turn on Saturday in Levelland, with Ilan Lopez, Kim Ramirez, Ethan Jimenez, Lailah Burks and Devin Reyes eyeing the All-Region Honor Band.
