FLOYDADA – The Floydada Volunteer Fire Department had another busy month of runs in February, but the fact they were nearly all within a week of each other made for some tired firefighters.

The first calls of the month came as mutual aid to Lockney VFD, with the first call being to the traffic accident along Highway 70 that killed the driver of a pickup truck. The next day Floydada’s ladder truck was called into assist with a house fire along Northeast 7th Street in Lockney.

A few days later Floydada had its second house fire of the year, as a house in the 300 block of West Kentucky was destroyed. Firefighters had to return to that scene twice to extinguish hot spots.

On February 14, a little more than 24 hours after the fire on West Kentucky, firefighters were called into the county on a trash fire that got out of control. They were then back in Lockney on the 15th for mutual aid on another fire that damaged a home.
