FLOYDADA, TX – A long-standing community tradition will return to the courthouse square this spring as the Floyd County Old Settlers Reunion is set for Saturday, May 16, bringing a full day of activities, entertainment, and hometown celebration to Floydada.

Hosted by the Floyd County Pioneer Association, the annual reunion is designed to honor the county’s heritage while bringing together residents, former locals, and visitors for a day of fellowship and fun. The event, which has been a staple in the community for generations, was moved from its traditional Memorial Day weekend date to mid-May this year in an effort to encourage greater participation.

Festivities will begin early in the day with a flag presentation ceremony, followed by a wide range of activities scheduled throughout the morning and afternoon. Attendees can expect a mix of traditional and family-friendly events, including a parade around the square, a classic car show, live entertainment, and a variety of games and contests.

Organizers have planned something for all ages, with highlights including vendor booths, a kids play area, stick horse races, a petting zoo, and interactive activities such as rope making and a “human hamster ball” game hosted by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. A beer garden and live music performances will add to the day’s entertainment.

Several exhibits and competitions will also take place, including the popular quilt, bonnet, and apron show, along with a flower show featuring cash prizes. Community traditions like recognizing the oldest man and woman present, as well as the person who traveled the farthest, will continue as part of the afternoon program.

The parade, scheduled for mid-afternoon, will feature a variety of entries competing for cash prizes across multiple categories, including floats, vehicles, and marching groups. Awards for Pioneer Man, Woman, and Couple will also be presented during the event.

In addition to the festivities, a raffle drawing is planned, along with opportunities for residents to explore local history through museum exhibits and genealogy displays.

The celebration will continue into the evening with a special Dance Night at the downtown Floydada pavilion. Live music will be provided by Day Late Dollar Short from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., featuring a mix of country, rock, and blues. Admission to the dance is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. The Old Maroon Saloon will be on-site serving drinks.

The Old Settlers Reunion has long served as a way to celebrate the deep roots and shared history of Floyd County, bringing generations together in the county seat of Floydada. The event continues to reflect the spirit of community pride and connection that defines the area.

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to mark their calendars and spend the day on the square enjoying food, entertainment, and a celebration of Floyd County’s past and present.
