FLOYDADA, TX – The jury trial of Alberto Guerrero, Jr. has concluded in Floyd County, with a guilty verdict returned on a charge of aggravated sexual assault.

After several days of testimony and deliberation, the jury found Guerrero guilty on the first-degree felony charge. He was not tried on additional charges connected to the case, as the trial focused solely on the aggravated sexual assault count.

Following the guilty verdict, the trial moved into the punishment phase, where the same jury determined Guerrero’s sentence. He was sentenced to 20 years Texas Department of Corrections (TDC).

The case stems from a February 28, 2025 incident in Floydada that led to an armed standoff involving local law enforcement, the Lubbock SWAT team, and the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities reported that Guerrero fled from officers and hid beneath a residence before being taken into custody after an extended standoff.

During the trial, jurors heard testimony from the victim, law enforcement officials, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE nurse), and lab technicians who presented DNA evidence. Additional witnesses also testified, and multiple pieces of physical evidence and photographs were admitted during the proceedings.

Aggravated sexual assault is classified as a first-degree felony in Texas, carrying a possible punishment of 5 to 99 years or life in prison. The jury ultimately assessed Guerrero’s punishment at 20 years.

The case has now reached its conclusion in Floyd County court.
