Floyd County Officer Involved Shooting – May 24, 2026
A pursuit involving a Floydada police officer and a Floyd County Sheriff’s deputy ended in Crosby County Sunday afternoon following an exchange of gunfire with the suspect.
The incident started as a traffic stop within Floydada city limits just after 3:00 p.m. Sunday. The suspected vehicle fled the city, heading south along U.S. 62/TX 207, dropping a female passenger out of the vehicle along the side of the highway before crossing into Crosby County.
The pursuit ended just north of the city of Ralls at the intersection of the highway with Crosby County Road 144. The suspect got out of the vehicle with a firearm. Despite numerous commands to drop the weapon, the suspect proceeded to fire at officers.
Details in the case remain under investigation, but at this time Floyd County Sheriff Paul Raissez can confirm the as-yet-unidentified suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The officer and deputy were not injured.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Texas Rangers are handling the case.
