Floydada Volunteer Fire Department Responds to 10 Calls in January

FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Volunteer Fire Department stayed busy in January 2026, responding to a total of 10 calls throughout Floydada and the surrounding areas. According to the department’s monthly fire run summary, calls ranged from grass and cotton burr fires to vehicle accidents and false alarms.

The month began on January 5 with a false alarm at 1207 Ralls Highway at 11:22 p.m. On January 8, firefighters were dispatched one mile north on US 70 at 10:37 a.m., where no fire was found upon arrival.

Emergency crews responded to two vehicle accidents during the month. The first occurred on January 15 at 7:22 a.m. on South US 62 in the canyon. The second accident was reported on January 24 at 12:51 p.m., also on South US 62 in the canyon.

Several fire-related calls kept volunteers on alert. On January 16 at 4:54 a.m., firefighters responded to a cotton burr fire two miles north of US 70. Grass and cotton burr fires were reported multiple times on January 21, including:

10:06 a.m. – Grass fire four miles north on US 70

11:40 a.m. – Cotton burr fire one mile east of Petersburg

2:45 p.m. – Grass fire one mile east of McCoy

Another cotton burr fire was reported on January 23 at 6:18 a.m., four miles north on US 70.

The final call of the month came on January 24 at 4:57 p.m. at 120 JB Avenue and was determined to be a smoke scare.

2 grass fires

2 vehicle accidents

1 false alarm

1 smoke scare
